Are you a dedicated Freestyle skier? Do you strive to hit larger features, spin bigger and stomp sicker tricks in a competitive environment? Then our Academy Development Teams are the place for you! Our teams strive to develop and refine your skills in a progressive, fun and safe environment. These teams include mountain days, dryland training, strength and conditioning training, competitions and tons of shredding with a team of likeminded athletes! Let our experienced and passionate coaches take your skiing to the next level! 

Academy Freeski Development Team 7

Ages 8-12

Our Freeski Dev 7 team provides advanced young skiers with a competitive and fun freestyle training environment to thrive in.

Athletes will build their bag of tricks and refine skills on jumps, boxes, rails, and trampoline. They will hone their fundamental skiing skills on groomed and varied terrain to compliment their freestyle riding and become stronger all-around skiers. Key factors of this program are the development of athleticism, mental preparedness, and introduction to competition. This program aligns with the Freestyle Canada curriculum. Athletes are in the “Learn to Train” phase of their long-term athletic development.

Prices do not include GST.

Days/Class Duration

  • Tuesday & Thursday: 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Additional Info/Costs

  • A valid season pass is required to participate in this program. Please note as a member of a club/academy program you are eligible to purchase a youth season pass at the extreme early bird rate upon registration.

  • General Membership - CAN FREE 1 & 2
  • Teams will operate with a 1:8 coach to athlete ratio.

Pre-requisites

  • Rails
    • Slide sideways on boxes or railsAble to hit all medium size jumps in west terrain park
    • Demonstrates 180 both directions on small to medium jumps
    • Able to sideways slide boxes in both directions
    • Demonstrates 360 in mini pipe
  • Skiing skills:
    • Completed WinSport All Mountain  Level 6 or equivalent
    • Confidently parallel ski all terrain at WinSport
    • Ski switch on beginner terrain
  • Jumps:
    • Hit all medium size jumps in west terrain park
    • Perform a left and right 180 spin
    • Perform a 360 spin

Key Goals

  • Skiing skills:
    • Ski switch on beginner & intermediate terrain over both shoulders demonstrating lead change
    • Ski beginner moguls run with two different tricks
  • Jumps:
    • Demonstrate proper body position through takeoff and landing, perform 3 basic grabs, introduced to spinning in all directions, perform a left and right 360
  • Rails:
    • Hit beginner boxes and rails both feet forward
  • Halfpipe:
    • Maintain strong body position and choose appropriate line
  • Trampoline:
    • Perform basic bed trick, spins and progressions for inverts

Academy Freeski Development Team 8

Ages 8-12

Our Freeski Dev 8 team develops skiers beyond the basics of competitive freestyle skiing by introducing advanced features and harder tricks. Athletes will require a strong base of fundamental skiing skills on groomed and varied terrain to compliment their freestyle development.

Our coaches show the athletes how to ride larger features in the terrain park and perform advanced maneuvers. Stronger development of athleticism and mental preparedness at this level will prepare athletes to move forward in their skiing career.
Athletes are in the “Learn to Train” phase of their long-term athletic development.

    • Confidently ski all types of terrain in the mountains
    • Ski all terrain at WinSport & hit all features in the Terrain Park
    • Switch ski confidently over both shoulders on intermediate terrain demonstrating lead change
    • Ski an intermediate mogul run with tricks
  • Jumps:
    • Spin 360 in all four directions on medium jump line
    • Spin 360 and 540 with a grab
  • Rails:
    • Hit intermediate rails comfortably both feet forward
    • Front and back 270 off a rail
  • Halfpipe:
    • Reach the top of the coping in the super pipe
    • 360 in the Superpipe
  • Trampoline:
    • Refining basic air awareness through bed tricks, spins and trick progressions, introduced to basic inverts

Academy Freeski Development - Park & Pipe

Ages 10-14

THIS CLUB IS BY INVITE ONLY

Our Freeski Dev Team - Park & Pipe places athletes in inter-club and provincial events.

This program is the steppingstone to our High Performance teams and requires major comittment from the athletes. Performing multiple flips and rotations in all directions and refining advanced skills on large features are the key focus of this program. Athletes will learn and apply these skills in the Halfpipe as they compete against other high level contenders. All athletes will be expected to maintain a high standard of athleticism, nutrition, maturity and focus.

This program moves athletes from the “Learn to Train” phase of their long-term athletic development to the “Train to Compete” phase.All dates are a requirement of the program (2 days dryland, 3 days on snow).

  • Pre-season Dryland
    • Thursday: 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
    • Saturday: 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.
  • Regular Season
    • Tuesday & Thursday: 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
    • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Additional Info/Costs

  • Mandatory Freestyle Canada General Membership - CAN FREE 3   
  • A valid season pass is required to participate in this program. Please note as a member of a club/academy program you are eligible to purchase a youth season pass at the extreme early bird rate upon registration.
  • Coach expenses for inter-club competition (including travel, hill pass, mileage, food split between all attending athletes. This will be billed separately by WinSport)

Pre-requisites

Be able to properly prepare for upcoming events, behave maturely and stay focussed in a competitive training environment*

  • Skiing skills:
    • Demonstrate advanced technical skiing on groomers and varied terrain
    • Ski intermediate/advanced mogul run in competition
    • Ski switch confidently on intermediate/advanced terrain over both shoulders demonstrating proper lead change and edge control
  • Jumps:
    • Confidently spin 360 all four ways with a grab
    • Land inverted maneuvers consistently on an airbag
    • Link combinations of forward and switch tricks spinning in different directions
    • Spin 540 in three different directions with grabs
    • Perform left and right 360’s on large jumps
  • Rails:
    • Spin on and off rails confidently in both directions
  • Halfpipe:
    • Choose appropriate line and generate speed through edge & pressure control
    • Link combinations of forward and switch tricks spinning in all directions
  • Trampoline:
    • Demonstrate controlled air awareness and a strong base of fundamental acrobatic skills
    • Perform a variety of inverted and off-axis tricks

Key Goals

Athletes must be able to properly prepare for upcoming events and show a focussed training mindset*

  • Skiing skills:
    • Demonstrate proficient technical skiing ability on groomers and varied terrain
    • Top to bottom mogul run with tricks on World Cup course
    • Ski switch confidently on advanced/expert terrain over both shoulders demonstrating proper lead change and edge control
  • Jumps:
    • All ways 540’s with grabs
    • Can perform 2 rotating flips on large size jumps (cork, rodeo, misty etc.)
  • Rails:
    • Spinning on and off kinked, curved, and large down rails in Terrain Park in both directions
  • Halfpipe:
    • Ski full halfpipe runs with spins or flips on every hit
  • Trampoline:
    • Demonstrate refined air awareness and a proficient base of fundamental acrobatic skills
    • Perform a variety of inverted and off-axis tricks
    • Perform 2 doubles

Snow School Disclaimer
Participation in WinSport’s snow school program (the “Program”) is subject to completion of WinSport’s Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreements (the “Waivers”) by the participant or their parent/legal guardian prior to the first day of the Program. This will include a Waiver for the Program and a Waiver for COVID-19. In the event the Waivers are not completed, participation in the Program shall not be permitted and a refund will be provided. The Waivers will be provided for review and signature prior to the start of the Program, and can also be found on our website for immediate review.
