Having fun while learning fundamental all-mountain skills, freestyle snowboard skills, and Terrain Park safety.
Elevate your snowboarding experience and embark on a journey of excitement, skill development, and camaraderie with our Fundamentals program. This program is for snowboarders ages 6-14 who are looking for coaching that will expand their snowboarding abilities to to include fundamental skills, varied terrain, and an introduction to the Beginner and Intermediate Terrain Parks. Athletes in season-long and January-start programs may also be introduced to riding in the halfpipe at their coach’s discretion.
Training sessions are 2.5 hours long and offer a structured approach to developing foundational skills for freestyle and all-mountain snowboarding. Athletes in the Freestyle Snowboard Fundamentals program are at the Active Start to the FUNdamentals level of Canada Snowboard’s Long-Term Athlete Development model (LTAD).
Season-long programs start Saturday, November 22 to Friday, November 28. With the winter hill currently set to open for skiers and riders on Friday, December 5, please note that season-long programs are scheduled to begin in a dryland format.
Terms of Contract
IMPORTANT – WAIVER REQUIRED
A Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement ("Waiver") must be completed prior to participation in WinSport’s Programs, Lessons, and Camps and, if applicable, rental of Equipment. If the applicable Waiver is not completed, participation in the WinSport Program and access to WinSport’s facilities will not be permitted, and a refund will be provided.
The Waiver will be available for completion during the sales process, and a copy is available for preview below.
- The Waiver will apply to all Ski & Snowboard Activities (as defined in the Waiver), including without limitation all day ticket use, season pass use, and participation in all programs, camps, lessons and events for the period of time set out in the Waiver.
- A parent/guardian must complete the Waiver for their minor/child participant.
PLEASE READ THE WAIVER CAREFULLY! By signing, you will waive or give up certain legal rights, including the right to sue for negligence, breach of contract, or breach of the Occupiers’ Liability Act or claim compensation following an accident.

NO GUARANTEE OF CONDITIONS - We do not guarantee hill conditions, weather or other operating conditions including open terrain or lift operation.
NO FOOT TRAFFIC ALLOWED ON SKI HILL - For the safety of WinSport’s guests, there is no foot traffic allowed or on-hill viewing of winter lessons. Parents (including carpet-only ticket holders) are not allowed on snow without ski or snowboard equipment and a valid ticket/pass. Only persons with a valid ticket/pass who are skiing or snowboarding with appropriate equipment will be permitted on snow.
ENROLLMENT IS REVOCABLE WITHOUT REFUND IN THE EVENT OF MISCONDUCT. CANCELLATION OF ENROLLMENT AND REFUNDS ARE SUBJECT TO WINSPORT’S REFUND POLICY.

LESSONS, CAMPS AND PROGRAMS REFUND POLICY - Refund Policy
Structure: Athletes can train once a week, or more as needed! If you are looking to progress faster or train more frequently, you can register for as many sessions as you wish.
Duration: Offered in season-long, January-start, and spring program formats. Full-season and January-start programs end the week of March 17-23 or will be extended one week if any sessions are cancelled by WinSport due to weather. Spring programs end in the final week of March.
Group formation: Groups will be based on similar participant skill levels and ages, and may be combined at times.

Fundamental skills: Develop your introductory freestyle skills including athletic body positioning, edge control, and switch skiing. These skills are the building blocks for all your future freestyle endeavors.

Terrain exploration: Discover new terrain with confidence. Gain the skills needed to approach boxes, jumps, rails, moguls, and other features safely and effectively.

Jump techniques: Master the basics of jumps, including proper timing and takeoff, mid-air control, and safe landings.

Introduction to tricks: Athletes will learn the early basics of grabs, spins, spreads, and other beginner-level maneuvers under the guidance of our qualified coaches.

Safety focus: Safety is paramount in freestyle skiing. You'll receive comprehensive instruction on proper progression, understanding terrain park etiquette, and personal well-being while having fun on the hill
Prerequisites
- Completed our Intermediate 4 Snow School program, or equivalent, before enrolling in this program.

Snowboarders should be able to confidently ride Blue terrain and be ready to progress to groomed Black terrain.

Snowboarders should also feel confident with loading and unloading the chairlift without assistance.

A WinSport Standard Access Winter Pass is required – lift tickets are not included in the program fee. Your coach may advise you to upgrade to an Advanced Access Pass to access the halfpipe.
Mandatory Equipment
Snowboarders should have their own properly fitting equipment, including a true twin or freestyle snowboard with quality metal edges, snowboard boots, and a CSA approved Snow Sport Helmet.
An athlete membership with Alberta Snowboard is required for all freestyle camps and programs. This membership is valid until June 30, 2026.
