Ideal for strong snowboarders ages 6-14 who are either already riding in the Terrain Park or excited to start, this program ensures a structured environment for progressing skills and learning essential Terrain Park safety. This program is a great choice for parents looking for their kids to explore freestyle snowboarding, under the guidance of a qualified coach, before committing to a longer program.
Try Freestyle Snowboard offers a structured approach to developing foundational skills for freestyle and all-mountain skiing. Athletes in the Try Freestyle Snowboard program are at the Active Start to the FUNdamentals level of Freestyle Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development model (LTAD).
Terms of Contract
IMPORTANT – WAIVER REQUIRED
A Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement ("Waiver") must be completed prior to participation in WinSport’s Programs, Lessons, and Camps and, if applicable, rental of Equipment. If the applicable Waiver is not completed, participation in the WinSport Program and access to WinSport’s facilities will not be permitted, and a refund will be provided.
The Waiver will be available for completion during the sales process, and a copy is available for preview below.
- The Waiver will apply to all Ski & Snowboard Activities (as defined in the Waiver), including without limitation all day ticket use, season pass use, and participation in all programs, camps, lessons and events for the period of time set out in the Waiver.
- A parent/guardian must complete the Waiver for their minor/child participant.

NO GUARANTEE OF CONDITIONS - We do not guarantee hill conditions, weather or other operating conditions including open terrain or lift operation.
NO FOOT TRAFFIC ALLOWED ON SKI HILL - For the safety of WinSport’s guests, there is no foot traffic allowed or on-hill viewing of winter lessons. Parents (including carpet-only ticket holders) are not allowed on snow without ski or snowboard equipment and a valid ticket/pass. Only persons with a valid ticket/pass who are skiing or snowboarding with appropriate equipment will be permitted on snow.
ENROLLMENT IS REVOCABLE WITHOUT REFUND IN THE EVENT OF MISCONDUCT. CANCELLATION OF ENROLLMENT AND REFUNDS ARE SUBJECT TO WINSPORT’S REFUND POLICY.

LESSONS, CAMPS AND PROGRAMS REFUND POLICY - Refund Policy
Duration: This program is offered as two-day holiday camps (three hours each day) and in a four-week format (2.5 hours each day).
Group formation: Groups will be based on similar participant skill levels and ages, and may be combined at times.
Key Goals
- Fundamental skills: Hone your all-round snowboard skills, including athletic snowboard positioning, edge control, and riding switch. These skills are the building blocks for all your future freestyle endeavors.
- Terrain exploration: Discover new terrain with confidence. Gain the skills needed to approach boxes, jumps, rails, moguls, and other features safely and effectively.
- Jump techniques: Athletes will be introduced to the basics of jumps including proper popping and takeoff, mid-air control, and safe landings.
- Introduction to tricks: Athletes will be introduced to the basics of grabs, spins, spreads, and other beginner-level maneuvers under the guidance of our skilled coaches.
- Safety focus: Learning to manage risk is paramount in freestyle snowboarding. You will receive comprehensive instruction on proper progression, understanding terrain park etiquette, and personal well-being while having fun on the slopes.
Prerequisites
- Snowboarders should have previously completed our Snowboard Intermediate 4 Snow School program (or equivalent).
- Snowboarders should be able to confidently ride Blue terrain and be progressing toward groomed Black terrain.
- Snowboarders should also feel confident with loading and unloading the chairlift without assistance.

Mandatory Equipment
Snowboarders should have their own properly fitting equipment, including a snowboard with quality metal edges, snowboard boots, and a CSA approved Snow Sport Helmet.
Memberships
- An athlete membership with Alberta Snowboard is required for all freestyle camps and programs. This membership is valid until June 30, 2026.
