SPRING & FALL PROGRAMS

WinSport’s school programs are directly aligned with the Alberta Education Program of Studies and Safety Guidelines for Physical Activity in Alberta Schools. Our passionate team help children develop a lifelong passion for sport and play through our programming and world-class facilities.

Winter Programs
Ski & Snowboard Lessons - Winter
Our ski and snowboard program provides a full day of professional instruction, with rentals, and hill ticket included.

Students will be under the care of our WinSport staff from the time the bus pulls up to the Frank King Day Lodge until they get back on at the end of the day. Our team is made up of certified ski and snowboard instructors with extensive in-house training, dedicated to delivering an exceptional experience.

Our school lessons are curriculum rich and designed to give students an opportunity to discover skiing or snowboarding in a safe environment. We strive to ensure all students have a fun experience and spark their interest to stay active through winter sport.

Program Cost

What's included? Hill access, level-based instruction, and equipment rentals for the duration.

Typical Day:
Busses arrive onsite at 9:00am. Our instructors will greet your group at the buses and guide you inside the Frank King Day Lodge cafeteria which will be your home base for the day. Your school will have reserved tables for the day which are organized by student Ski/SB level. Please arrive as per your scheduled time and be ready to go.

Students will be briefed for the day ahead and provided time for washrooms, and water. We will begin fitting rental equipment immediately afterwards. Students will head to our rental shop in by highest level first. Students will be made into groups of up to 10 students in the cafeteria and assigned to an instructor. Larger groups of more than 150 students may experience wait times up to 30 minutes in the cafeteria before heading to the rental shop. During any wait times in the cafeteria we will assign groups, size ski/sb boots and begin our instruction. Fitting rentals takes about 15-30 minutes. Many students will be on-snow by 9:30am. Students will be divided into groups of similar skill levels. On-snow students will be taught progressively to ensure their success and safety.

Lunch will take place at 11:30am-1:00pm depending on your bus departure inside the Frank King Day Lodge. If students need to purchase lunch, we have a full-service cafeteria available. Lunch will take approx. 30 minutes.

In the event of colder weather, we will adapt our lunch and break times to ensure student and team member safety. This means if its minus 20 Celsius we would encourage more breaks for all groups depending on the groups: activity level, dress preparedness, and wind factor.

Bus departure in this example is scheduled for 2:30pm. Lesson will end at approximately 2:00pm to ensure students have time to return their rental equipment, organize their belongings, refill water bottles, and use washrooms before getting on the bus. Prior to departure each instructor will complete a student progression card indicating their next recommended step in their skiing progression.

Our program will keep kids busy and active while teaching them skills that help them move with confidence and competence not only in sport, but in all aspects of life. Mountain Biking - Spring & Fall-FULL DAY

Our cross-country mountain biking program provides students with the opportunity to learn lifelong skills and discover a new passion while exploring our diverse outdoor environment. Our trained instructors provide a full day of exceptional instruction, with bike rental, helmet rental and hill access included in the program. All lessons will be based upon the student provided levels. We celebrate the developments made by every learner – the beginners to the all-stars.

Lunch will take place at 11:30am inside the Frank King Day Lodge or the Markin MacPhail Centre on-site. If students need to purchase lunch, we have a full-service cafeteria on-site at the Markin MacPhail Centre. We will warm-up and return to biking at 12:00pm.

Bus departure in this example is scheduled for 2:00pm. Lesson will end at approximately 1:45pm to ensure students return their rental bikes, use the washrooms, and are ready to board the bus at 2:00pm sharp.

Mountain Biking - Spring & Fall-HALF DAY

Our cross-country mountain biking condensed to 2.5 hours. Book in combination with one of our other half-day School Program offerings to make for a truly unique experience!

NEW - Mountain Biking Tech Time - Spring - HALF DAY

Our trained and knowledgeable staff will teach your students the basics of bike repair, bike mechanics, and assembly in this 2.5-hour introduction to what it is like as a bike technician. Get behind the bench to learn real-world skills to maintain and repair your bike! We will provide all the tools, bikes, parts, and instruction. This program is great as a standalone option and goes hand-in hand with our half-day Mountain Biking program. Pairing both options provide the participants with practical, real world skills and the environment to apply them.

Typical Day:
Busses arrive onsite at 9:00am. Our technicians will greet your group at the buses and guide you inside the Frank King Day Lodge cafeteria which will be your home base for the day. Please arrive as per your scheduled time and be ready to go.

Students will be briefed for the day ahead and provided time for washrooms, and water. We will begin instruction immediately afterwards. Our first objective is to explain roles and responsibilities of students, teachers, and technicians on how to safety use the tools and equipment within the space. From there we will begin our instructional work projects such as changing a tire, replacing a punctured tube, or checking a tires air pressure.

Bus departure in this example is scheduled for 11:30am. Lesson will end at approximately 11:15am to ensure students have time to debrief the experience, use the washrooms, and are ready to board the bus at 11:30am or move to their next half-day activity at WinSport such as Tech-Time or one of our team builder programs.

Activity Day - Spring & Fall - FULL DAY
Teambuilding WinSport-style! Join us for a day of group-based challenges which will bring your students closer together through overcoming team-based obstacles. Each challenge encountered will require students to think, communicate, and lead differently. Throughout the day you will see your students lead, communicate, and engage with their peers.

This program is offered outdoors and runs in most weather conditions.

Group-based challenges will be facilitated by WinSport Team Members. These challenges are located on-site within the Husky Gardens on campus.

Students will be briefed for the upcoming field trip and provided time for washrooms, and a water break. Student, parent volunteers, teachers will be provided a brief explanation of roles and responsibilities for the day. We will begin our first challenge indoors which will begin the morning challenges. Groups will be directed and lead to the Husky Gardens on-site which will be our outdoor programming space for the day. Students, teachers, and parent volunteers should be prepared to be outdoors for the duration of the visit. We will adjust our programming and outdoor time based on the weather. Morning activities will end at 11:15am to ensure all groups have sufficient time to make it back to the cafeteria for 11:30am.

Lunch will take place at 11:30am inside the Frank King Day Lodge or the Markin MacPhail Centre on-site. If students need to purchase lunch, we have a full service cafeteria on-site at the Markin MacPhail Centre. We will resume our team-building activities outdoors after another indoor challenge. The last challenge will wrap up at 1:40pm.

We will ensure there is time for students to gather their belonging, use the facilities and refill their water bottles before announcing the achievements of the day. Outdoor Education – Wilderness and Survival Skills – FULL DAY   
Imagine you and your students are left stranded in the wilderness and must escape. Thankfully you have a WinSport Call of the Wild instructor who will be your guide to learn the skills and techniques to adapt, improvise, and overcome the challenges ahead. We will venture into our 240-acre site to learn new skills and have fun along the way. We will teach and put together the following skills culminating in a “survivor-style” challenge:
  • Shelter building
  • Knot tying and lashings
  • Camouflaging
  • Pulley’s and levers
  • Water filtering
  • Make primitive friction fires kits

Busses arrive onsite at 9:30am. Our instructors will greet your group at the buses and guide you inside the Frank King Day Lodge cafeteria which will be your home base for the day. Please arrive as per your scheduled time and be ready to go.

Students will be briefed for the upcoming field trip and provided time for washrooms, and a water break. Student, parent volunteers, teachers will be provided a brief explanation of roles and responsibilities for the day. We will head outdoors and begin our outdoor education-based experiences. Groups will be directed and lead to our green spaces on-site which will be our outdoor programming spaces for the day. Students, teachers, and parent volunteers should be prepared to be outdoors for the duration of the visit. We will adjust our programming and outdoor time based on the weather. Morning activities will end at 11:15am to ensure all groups have sufficient time to make it back to the cafeteria for 11:30am.

Lunch will take place at 11:30am inside the Frank King Day Lodge or the Markin MacPhail Centre on-site. In the afternoon, all groups will partake in the “survivor challenge”, a finale of all previously learned experiences. The last challenge will wrap up at 1:40pm.
