Make the most of the cold winter months and enjoy some time on the slopes! The teen program is an engaging learning space that provides a fun and safe place to learn new skills and develop your technique.

These lessons are two hours long and include hill access for your lesson time.

Levels can be repeated to refine and consolidate skills.

Teen Snowboard - First Time

Take your first steps as a snowboarder! Familiarize yourself with the equipment, and how to use it to get around.

As the group progresses you will learn to be safe on the hill and begin to develop fundamental snowboard skills to stop, control your speed and direction.

Pre-requisites

  • No previous snowboard experience required

Key Goals

  • Become comfortable putting on your snowboard and moving about on flat and gently sloped terrain
  • Introduced to magic carpet lift and how to stop and control speed using heel and toe edge

Equipment Required

Dress in layers so participants can adjust your temperature for hill conditions and stay dry.

Come wearing the following items for a successful lesson experience:

  • Buff or face covering
  • Snow sports helmet (no hockey/bike helmets)
  • Goggles
  • Base layers made of moisture-wicking fabric
  • Winter jacket
  • Waterproof snow pants
  • Wool socks
  • Gloves/mittens

Teen Snowboard - Beginner 1

Grasp the basics and learn how to be safe on the hill before progressing to the next level. Start by learning the fundamental skills and gain confidence on beginner terrain as you learn how to control your speed and change direction.

Teen Snowboard - Novice 2

Further develop riding skills and techniques. Learn how to snowboard more challenging terrain confidently while maintaining an athletic body position and demonstrating edge control.

Pre-requisites

  • Make complete stops on toe and heel edge on beginner terrain
  • Control your speed and change direction on both edges

Key Goals

  • Make complete stops on toe and heel edge
  • Link complete toe and heel side turns on easy chairlift terrain
  • Build confidence on a snowboard and feel in control in a new environment
  • Introduce the chairlift

Teen Snowboard - Intermediate 3

Refine snowboarding skills as you carve steeper runs, reach higher speeds, and develop various terrain techniques with your certified instructor.

Features such as small jumps, bumps, and rollers may also be introduced at this level, depending on the group's interests.

Pre-requisites

  • Able to confidently ride intermediate/chairlift terrain
  • Complete toe and heel side turns on steeper terrain
  • Vary turn shape and frequency on steeper terrain
  • Confidently try challenging new skills

Key Goals

  • Develop and refine specific elements of your boarding
  • Experiment with short and large radius turns
  • Learn how to tackle terrain at higher speeds
  • Refine edge control and carving
  • Build skills and confidence to attempt any terrain
