Your child will learn and improve valuable skating skills while having fun in our Learn to Skate summer day camp. Beginners will learn the basics such as improving balance and learning to glide, while advanced skaters will refine skills including walking crosscuts and two-foot parallel hockey stops. Available from Level 1 (beginner) to Level 4. Your child will enjoy two on-ice sessions each day, along with a variety of fun and enriching camp activities.

Day camps run on a weekly basis and are full-day camps.

Camp schedule: This camp runs from 8:30am to 4pm. Complimentary before-and-after care is available from 8am to 8:30am, and 4pm to 5pm. If you require before and/or after care, please let your instructor know on the first day of camp.

Learn to Skate - Level 1

No previous skating experience necessary! This camp is for those looking to skate for the first time. Our trained instructors will help skaters get more comfortable on the ice through teaching skills on how to improve balance, walk and march, fall down and get back up, jump and turn.

Pre-requisites

  • None

  • CSA certified hockey helmet (full face mask is highly recommended)
  • Hockey or figure skates
  • Knee and elbow pads (recommended)
  • Warm clothing in layers
  • Snow pants (recommended)
  • Winter gloves or mittens

Learn to Skate - Level 2

Moving beyond the basics, this camp is for skaters who can move around the ice on their own and are ready to learn new skills. Your child will learn to glide on one and two feet, forward sculling, walk backwards and stop. Skaters will start to work on striding and developing their edges.

Pre-requisites

  • Youth Level 1 or equivalent

Your child will enhance their skating skills in this program with a focus on edge development and stopping. Instructors also introduce them to backwards skating skills, including gliding, sculling, stopping, and switching between forwards and backwards.

  • Youth Level 2 or equivalent
