Brett Walker, BSc., Kin.

Head Strength & Conditioning Coach

Brett is the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for WinSport’s Performance Training Centre. For the past 4 years, Brett has served as Calgary’s off-ice strength specialist with Hockey Canada, responsible for all NWCAA in-season programming as well as handling all off-season hockey development. Brett annually assists with the Calgary Flames development and main camp testing procedures and presented at the 2018 National Hockey Canada Skills Seminar. Upon completion of his Junior hockey and lacrosse career, the northern Alberta native moved to Calgary to attain his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from the University of Calgary. While developing athletes from minor hockey to the NHL ranks, Brett is also currently working with athletes on Canada's national bobsleigh and skeleton program, along with development slopestyle ski and snowboard teams.

Chase Wetherell, BKin., CSCS, FMS

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Chase is a graduate of the University of Calgary and has been involved in the fitness and sports field his entire life. Chase has worked with a vast array of athletes of all abilities, including MMA, soccer, figure skating, volleyball, hockey and gymnastics. Growing up, Chase played soccer before his life was taken over by kickboxing and Muay Thai. He has trained at the UFC Performance Institute, as well as with former K-1 Grand-Prix champions Ernesto Hoost and Remy Bonjasky. Chase has held his black belt with the International Kickboxing Federation since 2014, and still actively trains with other fighters in Calgary. Revisiting his soccer roots, Chase currently works part-time as a strength & conditioning coach for one of the major soccer clubs in the city.

Magnus Lobo, MSc, ATC, FMT

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Magnus brings over 7 years of Athletic Training experience to our WinSport strength and conditioning staff. Magnus has prior stints with the NFL- New York Jets as a Seasonal Athletic Trainer and the NFL China as the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Player Safety. He has specialties in exercise rehabilitation and musculoskeletal assessments. Magnus has served as an Anatomy & Physiology in Kinesiology Instructor for Wingate University in North Carolina while working as the Head Athletic Trainer for Men's and Women's Basketball, Tennis, and Soccer. He has overseen in-season and off-season injury prevention and strength & conditioning programs for all level athletes ranging from middle school athletics to professional sports. Magnus studied Athletic Training at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and has both his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees. He's a Certified Athletic Trainer and Fascial Mobility Specialist, promoting engaging and pain free movements and for client success.

Eva Madar, BKin., CSEP-CPT

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Eva was born in Hungary where she established herself as a competitive swimmer at the national level and a swim coach at the amateur level. Moving to Canada in 2012, she attended the University of Regina to complete her Bachelor degree in Kinesiology, majoring in Human Kinetics. She competed on the varsity swim team where she became a CanWest champion, CIS bronze medalist and five-time All-Canadian athlete. During her fieldwork at the Canadian Sport Institute (CSI) Ontario, Eva worked with the Biomechanics & Performance Analysis team to support the High-Performance Swim team. Eva’s experience as an athlete fueled her passion for strength and conditioning, attributing much of her success to the time she spent training outside of the pool. As a strength coach, Eva has an affinity to working with younger development groups, but enjoys working with all populations of athletes.

Erik Bullanoff, B.Sc., Kin., (EXHP)

Strength & Conditioning Coach

From the Home of Champions, Trail, British Columbia, Erik is a graduate from the University of Calgary. Growing up in a small-town, Erik was a multisport athlete involved in hockey, baseball, lacrosse, golf, skiing, and rugby. At university he discovered weightlifting and has since competed at Junior Canadian Weightlifting Nationals, 3x Senior Canadian Weightlifting Nationals, and was a Bronze medalist and 3x participant at the Western Canadian Weightlifting Championships. Erik’s coaching experience includes practicum positions at Peak Power Sports Development and Crash Conditioning. From personal and professional experiences, Erik has a strong foundation of strength and power movements, as well as sport specific training for hockey, baseball and lacrosse. Erik is working towards his CSCS and NCCP Weightlifting Level 1 while also actively competing in weightlifting.

Justin Massar, B.A, Kin. CSCS

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Justin is a York University graduate having completed his Specialized Honors Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology while competing in track and field in both pentathlon and decathlon disciplines. His top finish was 4th place at the Canadian Senior Combined Events Championships in 2015. Justin has worked with a wide variety of athletes including National level volleyball players, divers and coached 6 athletes to National Championships in track and field. Justin continuously expands his knowledge with industry leading certifications including NCCP certifications in Club Track and Field, Road Running and Trained throws coaching. Justin’s training is based on functional movement for both the general population and athletes. He focuses on building symmetry within the body, creating more efficient and explosive movements patterns. Now retired from athletics as an athlete, Justin spends most of his downtime in the mountains exploring and hiking with his dog “the ezz”.

Jermaine Bucknor, NCCP 3

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Jermaine is a retired Canadian National Team athlete and has been coached by and worked alongside some of the top coaches in Canada in the sport of track and field, gymnastics and bobsled. Jermaine has also been mentored by some of the top strength and conditioning coaches in Canada. Jermaine is now able to provide the knowledge and training needed to increase dynamic stability resulting in greater speed, endurance skill acquisition and expression through various different sports. Jermaine has trained many athletes who have gone on to win Provincial and National championships, as well as scholarships to top American universities. His only goal as a coach is to get the best possible results and give athletes the tools needed to express their skills at the highest possible level year after year.

Erin Ashbacher, BKin.

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Erin graduated from the University of Calgary with her Bachelor of Kinesiology in Exercise and Health Physiology. Erin started her career in cardiac rehabilitation at the University of Regina. She brings over 10 years of experience working in general strength and conditioning with extensive experience in pre- and post-rehabilitation of various replacement surgeries including partial and full hip replacement, partial knee replacement and shoulder reconstruction. After a back injury, Erin began powerlifting and found a new passion for lifting heavy and has represented Canada at the Commonwealth Championships, winning gold. Erin is strict on correct movement patterning, always emphasising proper form and technique before lifting heavier weight. Erin is passionate in helping her clients achieve what they never thought was possible and believes time spent in the gym should aid in enjoying your time outside of the gym.

Adrian Nizzero, M.HK, B.Sc Kin, CSCS

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Adrian comes to us from Sudbury, Ontario, where he attended Laurentian University. He has helped develop countless athletes and teams in a number of sports, spanning all levels from high school to professional. Most recently, Adrian held the position of S&C Coach for the Laurentian University Voyageurs women’s hockey team, while also training individual clients. Adrian‘s graduate research examined the biomechanics of the low back/hip complex, which helps him create efficient and joint-friendly training programs. He specializes in creating strong, resilient joints to optimize movement and have you feeling great and performing at your highest level.
