Ski/Snowboard lessons Know Before You Go

When and Where to Arrive
There’s nothing worse than having to rush to a ski lesson and then not know where to register and get fitted for your equipment. So, we’ve created some tips below that will get you to the right place at the right time - stress-free.

Please arrive to the Frank King Day Lodge (see Snow School Meeting Spot Map). If you’re renting equipment, please arrive 1 hour prior to your lesson time and bring your completed rental waiver. Please be prepared to indicate your weight, height and shoe size so our team can fit you with the appropriate equipment. If you’re bringing your own equipment, please arrive 30 minutes prior to your lesson time. Parking is free, however, on weekends and holidays we suggest allowing for extra time since you may be parked at a further lot and shuttled to the Frank King Day Lodge. We recommend that participants use the washroom prior to the start of your lesson to maximize your time on snow.

Checking in when renting equipment
  • Enter the Frank King Day Lodge and go directly to the Rental Shop
  • Show your program confirmation to the WinSport Rental Shop staff to receive your equipment (boots, helmet, and snowboard or skis and poles).
  • After getting geared up, go outside to your lesson meeting spot where you’ll meet your instructor and receive your lift ticket. Click here to view the Snow School Meeting Spot Map. Please arrive at the meeting spot 15 minutes prior to lesson.

Please Note:
If you have registered for a multi-day program you must collect your rental equipment each day by showing your lift ticket to the Rental shop staff.

Non WinSport Season Passholders: Your instructor will provide you with a lift ticket for all days of your program, please don’t lose it! You must be have your lift ticket every day of your program.

WinSport Season Passholders: You do not require a lift ticket but must be have your season pass with you every day of your program.

On-hill lesson procedures
To ensure everybody on the hill is able to ski and snowboard in a fun and safe manner, there are some guidelines we ask all of our visitors to follow. Due to limited space and for the safety of your child, we ask that parents please respect the parent-free zones. Parents can buy a 3-hour lift ticket at Guest Services in the Frank King Day Lodge to ski or ride while your child is in their lesson.

Helmets specifically designed for alpine sports are mandatory for all lesson and program participants and terrain park users including adults. Helmets are available to rent or purchase on site.

What To Wear
The weather in Calgary can change hourly, so we want to make sure you stay comfortable for your entire lesson. Dress for comfort in layers so you can adjust your temperature as the conditions on the hill change. There are a number of other pieces of clothing and equipment we’ve listed below that should keep you as warm and dry as possible all day long.

Acura Tube Park Know Before You Go

Checking In
  • No entrance permitted to the park without a valid snow tubing lift ticket.
  • Tickets may be purchased at Guest Services in the Frank King Day Lodge, online, or at the kiosks.
  • The tube park is located on the east side of the hill just past the Gold Carpet.

Age, Weight, Waivers & Health Restrictions
  • The minimum height requirement is 36 inches tall. Children between 36 inches and 42 inches may tube with an accompanying adult in a separate tube, holding on to the child’s tube during descent. 
  • Children over 42” tall may tube on their own
  • Children under 36” are not permitted to ride
  • All children under the age of 12 must be under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian at all times. WinSport staff are not responsible for supervising or monitoring children’s activity.
  • WinSport makes no guarantees for the safety of participants while participating in Tube Park activities. Use at your own risk.
  • Individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to participate.

What To Wear
Winter Bobsleigh - Know Before You Go
  • Tubers should be prepared for varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Insulated winter boots with a good grip are recommended.
  • Warm winter clothing and a hat or toque and gloves/mitts.
  • Snow pants (especially for children).
  • Ski goggles are recommended.
  • Helmets are strongly recommended (especially for children) and are available to rent.
  • Ski boots are not permitted in the Tube Park for safety reasons

Tubing In Groups
  • One person per tube only. Adults may hold onto their child's tube, conditions permitting.
  • Children are not permitted to ride on their parent’s lap.
  • Group Tubing is permitted where sliders can link up and go down a lane together – conditions permitting. Group sizes are at the discretion of WinSport staff. Check with your attendant for help with group tubing.
Ride information and safety overview
  • All participants must ride their own individual tubes provided by WinSport.
  • All participants must follow attendants’ instructions and obey all posted signage and closures. Failure to do so will result in removal of your lift ticket without refund.
  • Unsafe conduct will result in the removal of a lift ticket without refund.
  • Use of any sliding device other than the tubes provided by WinSport is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.
  • Snow tubes are not permitted outside of the designated tubing area.
  • Management is not responsible for personal injury, damage or wear to your clothing due to any cause whatsoever while you are engaged in snow tubing and/or activity associated with snow tubing.

  • Guest experience is important to us. Due to the time sensitive nature and popularity of this activity and to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests, late arrivals may not be permitted to participate. Bookings may be rescheduled based on availability. Participant last call is 15 minutes prior to scheduled activity time. Guests may be turned away if arriving after this time. If you are running late, please call ahead to confirm that WinSport can still accommodate your group at 403-247-5452 ext. 4
  • Late arrivals or no-show groups are responsible for covering the full cost of the booking, as per WinSport’s cancellation guidelines

  • A great place to view for the accompanying family or friends is at the finish line
  • Guests may be shuttled back to the Start House

  • Sessions runs for approximately four hours
  • Sessions include classroom instruction, a 30min track walk, two hours of ice time (two runs from the Ladies Luge start), and a video review.
  • DVD copies of each session will be available for $15

Winter Bobsleigh - Know Before You Go
This is a winter sport, so please dress warmly. You may not want to wear your Sunday best while sliding, as you just might bump the wall which could damage a nice jacket. You can wait your turn in our warm start house but consider old sweatshirts and durable pants for sliding. Please bring gloves and secure, sensible footwear that you don't mind scuffing up.

  • Credits will be kept on the purchaser's WinSport account for one calendar year.
