We five athletes the tools and feedback to progress their riding while training in a safe and fun environment.

Our recreational programs focus on refining technical riding with some focus on developing freestyle skills to create well rounded riders. These programs are fun way to get exposed to different skills and terrain!

Athletes on our competitive teams will refine advanced skills while having access to different training venues such as the airbag, trampoline and superpipe. Our competitive athletes will spend the season training and preparing for different events and competitions.

Freestyle Snowboard - Level Freeride Fundamentalz

Level 5/6. Our Freeride Fundamentalz (9-11 year old) program takes young snowboarders to the next level by giving them the tools to shred all kinds of different terrain and features while learning new basic tricks. The aim of this program is to build well-rounded snowboarders with a solid base of fundamental riding skills. Athletes will progress their skiing on more challenging terrain as they focus on fundamental riding technique and other skills such as switch skiing, jumps, boxes, rails, grabs and more.

This program runs 1 days a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Pre-requisites

  • Can confidently snowboard from the top of the ’88 chair at WinSport completely unassisted
  • Completed WinSport Snow School Level 4 or equivalent
  • Can link complete heel and toe side turns on green/blue terrain
  • Has the stamina to snowboard for 3 hours

Equipment Required

  • Properly sized snowboard
  • Properly fitting snowboard boots
  • Appropriate outerwear and layers for all conditions
  • Properly maintained equipment

Key Goals

Riding Skills:

  • Ride with a stacked body position.
  • Able to do carved turns
  • Can ride switch
  • Capable of riding advanced blue/ black runs

Jumps:

  • Can ollie on flat ground
  • Can comfortably hit Small-Medium sized jumps
  • Two 180s on flat terrain or Small jumps
  • Sliding 360's on flat terrain

Rails:

  • Can hit a box (take off and land properly)
  • Ready to try a Small ride on rail

Halfpipe:

  • Able to do a carved traverse or J-turn on steeper terrain

Please note as a member of a club/academy program you are eligible to purchase a youth season pass at the early bird rate upon registration. Proof of up-to-date athlete (NSO/PSO) membership through Freestyle Canada or Canada Snowboard is required to participate in these programs.

Freestyle Snowboard - Level 6/7 REC Freeride

Level 6/7. Our Freeride Recreational (9-11 year old) program develops young riders in the exciting and expressive sport of freestyle snowboarding. Athletes in this program must be able to confidently ride alpine terrain with a stacked body position and correct turn shape. Our coaches will provide feedback and tools to help athletes jump correctly, ride boxes or rails and learn spins, grabs and other basic freestyle skills. This program aligns with the Freestyle Canada curriculum and is designed to be fun and progressive in a non-competitive environment. Its development is in alignment with our competitive stream should any athletes decide to move in that direction. Athletes in this program are in the “Active for Life” phase of their long-term athletic development. This program runs 1 day a week on Fridays.

  • Can do basic grabs or 180's

Freestyle Snowboard - Level 7/8 REC Freeride

Level 7/8. 

Our Freeride Recreational (12-17 year old) program refines technical snowboarding and freestyle skills to develop well-rounded athletes.

The focus of this program is to continually develop the riding skills of the athletes and introduce higher-end freestyle skills in a fun, safe and progressive non-competitive training environment. Improvement of technical riding skills will compliment the athletes freestyle snowboarding and ensure safe progression. This program is aligned with the Freestyle Canada curriculum and our competitive programs should any participants decide to move in that direction.
Athletes in this program are in the “Active for Life” phase of their long-term athletic development.

Freestyle Snowboard - Level Mini Development

Level 6. Our Mini Development Freestyle Snowboard program introduces young snowboarders to the exciting world of competition while developing important riding skills, learning new tricks and riding new terrain. Our coaches will help build young athletes with a passion for snowboarding and a mindset to train for competition. Children in these programs will require a strong base of fundamental riding skills on groomed and varied terrain to compliment their freestyle development. Athletes are in the “Learn to Train” phase of their long-term athletic development.

Pre-requisites

  • Capable of riding advanced blue/ black runs

  • Can do a grab
  • Can comfortably hit Small-Medium sized jumps

  • Ready to try a Small ride on rail

Halfpipe:

  • Able to do a carved traverse or J-turn on steeper terrain

  • Can comfortably hit Large jumps.

  • Can do spins and butters on snow

Freestyle Snowboard - Level Grom Development

Level 7+. Our Grom Development Freestyle snowboard program introduces and develops snowboardes beyond the basics of competitive freestyle snowboarding. Our coaches will progress the athletes into riding larger features and trying more advanced tricks while training for clubs level events. Athletes will require a strong base of fundamental skiing skills on groomed and varied terrain to compliment their freestyle development. Stronger development of athleticism and mental preparedness at this level will prepare athletes to move forward in their snowboarding career. Athletes are in the “Learn to Train” phase of their long-term athletic development.

Freestyle Snowboard - Level Development Team

Our Development Freestyle Snowboard teams introduce athletes to inter club competitions and a higher intensity training environment. Athletes are expected to link maneuvers on every feature in the terrain park in a fluent run. They must be able to perform all skills learned in previous levels and require a strong base of fundamental skiing skills. Athletic awareness, mental focus and maturity are the primary focus in this program. Athletes are in the “Train to Train”/ "Train to Compete" phase of their long-term athletic development.

  • Stacked body position switch
  • Capable of riding all terrain in mountains

  • Four way spins on Large jumps,
  • ready/capable of spinning XL line.
  • Can do at least 1 inverted trick

Rails:

  • All board slides
  • Spinning on and of Medium-Large rails.

Halfpipe:

  • Stacked body position switch in pipe,
  • capable of tricking every hit in one run in the pipe
  • Airing out every hit on straight airs

Equipment Required

  • Properly sized park snowboard
  • Properly fitting snowboard boots appropriate for freestyle riding
  • Appropriate outerwear and layers for all conditions
  • Properly maintained equipment
