Riders challenge themselves on steeper and more technical terrain while refining important biking skills.
These programs focus on building speed, control, endurance and efficiency on the trails.

Freeride - Level 6

Charge through challenging terrain while building confidence and endurance in our Summer Freeride (ages 9-11) programs. Our coaches give kids the tools to tackle bigger terrain with ease by providing tips, tactics and feedback in a fun environment. To be prepared for this level, your child should already be comfortable riding on Blue (intermediate) or mild Black (advanced) terrain.

Pre-requisites

  • Use correct uphill or downhill position on technical Blue (intermediate) terrain
  • Efficient use of both brakes on technical Blue terrain to maintain traction and control.
  • Correct timing when using brakes to maintain speed and control.
  • Using rotation to help steer thru corners
  • Shift gears pre-emptively through uphill or downhill terrain to maintain a proper cadence.
  • Ride over small jumps, drops or natural features with correct position
  • Scan the trail and choose the appropriate line while riding on a technical Blue trail.

Equipment Requirements

  • Front and rear disk brakes required
  • Front suspension required
  • Rear suspension recommended
  • Dropper post recommended
  • Full Face helmet strongly recommended
  • Knee pads strongly recommended
  • Other Body Armour such as neck brace, chest/back protector, elbow pads recommended

Key Goals

  • Brake efficiently to maintain speed in corners and technical sections
  • Use pressure control to generate speed.
  • Refined rotation for improved cornering
  • Distinguish safe, fast and efficient line choice in technical sections
  • Air over a jump or feature and maintain proper positioning.
  • Learn different maneuvers such as a bunny hop, front wheel lift and rear wheel lift.
  • Shift gears efficiently to maintain speed through technical Blue (intermediate) and Black (advanced) terrain; 'ghost shifting'
