Freeride Camp - Level 6

Ages 9-11

The Freeride Fundamentals (ages 12-17) Summer week-long camp gives you a jump-start into the riding season. Our instructors will help build confidence and comfortability on more difficult terrain to get you ready for bigger trails. To be prepared for this level, you should already be comfortable riding on Blue (intermediate) or mild Black (advanced) terrain.

Ages 12-17

Boost your riding skills in our Summer Freeride (ages 12-17) program. Our instructors give riders the tools to charge through technical terrain while building confidence and endurance. To be prepared for this level, you should already be comfortable riding on Blue (intermediate) and Black (advanced) terrain.


  • Use correct uphill or downhill position on technical Blue (intermediate) terrain
  • Efficient use of both brakes on technical Blue terrain to maintain traction and control.
  • Correct timing when using brakes to maintain speed and control.
  • Shift gears pre-emptively through uphill or downhill terrain to maintain a proper cadence.
  • Ride over small obstacles (sticks, rocks, etc.) with correct body position.
  • Scan the trail and choose the appropriate line in a corner or on a technical Blue trail.

  • Front and rear disk brakes required
  • Front suspension required
  • Rear suspension recommended
  • Dropper post recommended
  • Full Face helmet recommended
  • Knee pads strongly recommended
  • Other Body Armour such as neck brace, chest/back protector, elbow pads recommended


Key Goals

  • Brake efficiently to maintain speed in corners and technical sections
  • Use pressure control to generate speed.
  • Use rotation to improve cornering
  • Distinguish safe, fast and efficient line choice in technical sections
  • Air over a jump or feature and maintain proper positioning.
  • Learn different maneuvers such as a bunny hop, front wheel lift and rear wheel lift.
  • Shift gears efficiently to maintain speed through technical Blue (intermediate) and Black (advanced) terrain; introduced to "Ghost shifting"


Participation in WinSport’s Mountain Bike programs, lessons and camps (the Program”) is subject to completion of WinSport’s Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreements (the “Waivers”) by the participant or their parent/legal guardian prior to the first day of the Program.
