Gym Covid-19 FAQ

What will the BWTC be doing to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19?

All guests and members will be required to submit a health screening assessment on each visit via our website link BWTC Guest Health Screen or our onsite QR code prior to accessing the facility.

Online booking for training blocks and capacity limits will be set to ensure physical distancing.

Increased cleaning protocols including the use of an electrostatic disinfectant sprayer and individual sanitizing spray bottle and cloth for members are being implemented throughout the facility.

Additional hand sanitization stations are being placed in all areas of the facility.

Physical distancing measures including signage and markings will be in place.

Do I need to wear a mask in the facility?

In compliance with the Town of Canmore bylaw, masks are mandatory in all common spaces within the facility. Once on the weight room floor, masks are optional depending on the type of physical activity.

Gym Use

Will the water fountains be available?

The water fountain stations will be unavailable. Members are encouraged to bring a pre-filled water bottle for their workout.

What will be the process of using the gym now?

All gym use must be booked via timeslots through the BWTC website (BOOK NOW)

Gym opening hours will now be Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Sessions will be capped at 1 hour & 15 minutes with a 15-minute buffer between slots for cleaning

Arrive just before your session time and follow signage and physically distance from others where required.

All members/guests must check in with the front desk for prescreening, waivers, and membership checks. (Member access cards have been disabled at this time.)

Users will receive a disinfectant spray bottle and cloth for use throughout their session

Why do I have to book online for my work out?

Our new online booking process will provide the safest training environment possible for our members. A preset capacity for each training block helps facilitate physical distancing while also guaranteeing your workout time. (BOOK NOW)

Why are some time slots not available for public use?

We will be resuming operations under a new set of circumstances. Periodically during the day, the facility will undergo a deep clean and sanitization of all high touch points and surfaces that require additional time and care to complete. The need to separate team training blocks and staffing considerations have all been factored into our decision to open. We will continue to monitor our operations and facility usage and may adjust block times in the future.

How far in advance can I book a workout?

7 days

Do I need to come right at the start of my booked time slot?

No, but we encourage you to arrive on time to maximize your workout session. All members must leave the facility at the end of the training block time.

Why do I need to leave at the end of my session, even if the next time slot is not at capacity?

This allows staff to sanitize and restock used small equipment (bands, rollers, mats etc.) in the gym. It also gives time to clear the building and permit staff to process the next timeslot.

What happens if I need to cancel my booked time slot?

We ask that you only book time slots that you know you can make and in the event of cancellation we ask you to cancel a minimum of 2 hours in advance. This is to allow proper notice to anyone who may wish to book. If you do not cancel 2 hours prior to the start of your time slot, it will be counted as a no-show. Members who accumulate 3 no-shows within a 30-day period may be charged a $25 no-show fee to ensure we are managing the facility and providing the best experience possible for our members.

What amenities and gym equipment will be affected?

Some amenities & equipment will be limited during our initial reopening in accordance with AHS guidelines and recommendations. Affected services include:

Some gym equipment has been removed or taped off to allow distancing

Miscellaneous small equipment is limited and members are strongly encouraged to bring and use their own mats, bands, rollers, etc.

The lockers, showers, change rooms & saunas will be closed, but washrooms will be open. Please come dressed to train, with clean indoor shoes for your workout.

We will have designated totes in the gym foyer for storing small gym bags and personal items.

The equipment has been spaced to allow distancing, please don't move it.

Memberships and Fees

What happened to my membership when the BWTC closed on March 16th?

All memberships were frozen on March 16th. Memberships will be reactivated on the first visitation and will be extended based on your expiry date and the number of days the BWTC was closed. E.g. Your membership expired on June 30, 2020. On your initial visit, 3 months, and 14 days will be added to your membership. An extended grace period for existing memberships will be in place until December 31, 2020. All memberships will be reactivated with their remaining time on January 1, 2021.

Why is the membership fee the same when times and access has changed?

Although amenities and services have been reduced to provide a safe training environment and to comply with government regulations, the cost of cleaning has increased.

The public and team athletic groups now train separately, offering a more open and relaxed environment.

We still offer the lowest membership rates in the valley

We believe the training facility and staff will maintain a level of professionalism that will bring value to your membership fee.

How will the BWTC determine when it is safe to re-open to normal hours and amenities?

We are closely monitoring all provincial health guidelines to ensure our facility is safe for all members, teams, and staff. We will only reopen closed amenities/services when it is safe to do so based on these guidelines and following the recommendations of local public health officials.
