Academy Mountain Bike Know Before You Go
Before getting here
Please take the time to review the email that was sent to you and complete all applicable forms. If you don’t have the email, please call Guest Services to update your email on file. You can also click on the link below and complete the online check-in process.

When and Where to Arrive
  • The first day of the program, all groups will meet inside the cafeteria on the 2nd floor of the Frank King Day Lodge*
  • Please place your bike in the racks behind the building before proceeding to check-in
  • Please pick up your bike in the racks behind the building after checking out
  • Please refer to the attached map for parking and check in directions
*For the remainder of the season, you will meet your coaches on the back deck of the day lodge, next to the bike rack

What else you should know
  • Cancellations made greater than 7 days prior to the program start date will be refunded less a $20.00 processing fee.
  • Cancellations made between 7 days and 24 hours prior to the program start date will be credited to the purchaser's WinSport account.
  • No Cancellations can be made within 24 hours of the program start date.
  • There are no refunds for missed classes during a program.
  • Credits will be kept on the purchaser's WinSport account for one calendar year.

Ages 6 - 8

The goal of this program is to work on the FUNdamentals of mountain biking including braking, gearing and body position. In each of the three levels, your rider will work with the same coach two days per week through the duration of the summer.
  • Time: Wednesday 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m./Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Dates: June 29th – September 24th (23 sessions)
  • Holiday: July 2nd, July 30th & September 3rd  
  • Price: $800

Level 4
This is our entry level into the club programs and is for children who have been in our mountain bike camps and are confident in our level 4 group. Your child should be capable of controlling bike speed and direction on moderately steep and technical single track trails.  They must be able to change gears and brake efficiently on their bike and maintain a solid position while riding. This club will build on your child’s existing skills on all terrain including cross country, dirt jumps and downhill.

Key Goals
  • Develop aggressive riding technique
  • Develop skill-based manoeuvres including front/rear wheel lifts, bunny hops, drops and jumps
Prerequisites
  • Completion of Level 3, or:
  • Confident riding on challenging off-road terrain at higher speeds
  • Able to remain in full control of speed
  • Open to new challenges on blue terrain

Level 5
Level 5 is for kids who have been in our club program for a year and are looking to advance their fundamental skills. If your child is new to clubs, he or she should be confident on all types of single track terrain in all disciplines. Your child must be able to stay in control on small drops and jumps and be open to progressing onto black terrain.

Key Goals
  • Develop aggressive riding technique
  • Develop fundamental skills in all terrain including rocky, rooty, steep, berms, dirt jumps
  • Develop skill-based manoeuvres including front/rear wheel lifts, bunny hops, drops and jumps
Prerequisites
  • Confident on challenging off-road terrain at higher speeds
  • Able to climb uphill easily on blue trails
  • Able to remain in full control of speed and direction
  • Able to do small drops

Level 6
Level 6 is our most advanced group and it is recommended for kids who have been in our club program for two or more years. If your child is new to clubs, he or she is a well-rounded biker who is confident riding all black cross-country and downhill trails, including steep climbs, large jumps, drops and narrow elevated trail sections. Riders should have advanced fundamental mountain bike skills and are confident riding in all types of terrain. Coaches of this program will help kids develop advanced skill-based techniques and maneuvers.

  • Develop aggressive riding technique
  • Develop fundamental skills in all terrain including rocky, rooty, steep, berms, dirt jumps
  • Develop skill-based manoeuvres including front/rear wheel lifts, bunny hops, drops and jumps
Prerequisites
  • Confident riding on challenging off-road terrain at higher speeds
  • Able to climb uphill on black trails
  • Able to remain in full control of speed and direction
  • Able to do medium drops & jumps
  • Open to new challenges on black terrain

Recreational 6 - 10

The goal of this program is to work on the FUNdamentals of mountain biking, including braking, gearing and body position. Your child will work with the same coach all summer and be exposed to all aspects of mountain biking, including cross country and downhill, with a group of like-minded kids, building confidence and resilience.
  • Time: Wednesday or Thursday 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Dates:
    • Wednesdays: July 6th – September 21st(12 sessions)
    • Thursdays: July 7th – September 22nd (12 sessions)

Level 4
This is our entry level into the club programs and is for children who have been in our mountain bike camps and are confident in our level 4 group. This club will allow you to build on the skills your child worked on in camp and develop them through the season.

  • Develop skill-based manoeuvres such as front/rear wheel lifts, bunny hops, drops and jumps
  • Exposure to cross country and downhill mountain biking
Prerequisites
  • Completion of Level 3, or:
  • Able to remain in full control of speed & direction on moderately steep and technical single track trails

Spring Cross Country (XC) Program
*Ages 10 - 16

The Spring XC program builds fitness and revisits fundamental cross-country mountain bike skills to prepare riders for mountain bike season. This program improves kids’ trail riding skills by focusing on technical climbing and descending, gearing and braking.
  • Time: Wednesday 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (8 sessions)
  • Dates: May 4th - June 22nd
  • Price: $240

  • Knee pads
  • Water bottle
  • Suitable mountain bike that you are comfortable pedaling up and down hill for 2+ hrs. This does not need to be a full suspension and rentals are available

Level 5/6

This program builds on the fundamentals of mountain biking and focuses on bike movement and pressure control. Coaches will push kids to adopt a more aggressive riding technique by developing skill-based manoeuvres such as front/rear wheel lifts, bunny hops, drops and jumps on both cross country and downhill. Coaches also introduce your child to the aspects of competition and will help them understand the concept of training.

  • Time: Wednesday 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. / Saturday 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Dates: June 29th – September 24th (23 sessions)
  • Holiday: July 2nd, July 30th & September 3rd 
  • Price: $1050

Ages 13-16

C-Team is our introductory competitive program that focuses on the technical and tactical skills required for racing. Athletes will continue to develop fundamental skills not only on the downhill trails but also on dirt jumps and single track trails. This program will prepare and condition athletes for all styles of competition (downhill, slopestyle, and cross-country/enduro).

Athletes need to be confident riding all types of terrain at high speeds and have the ability to ride gap jumps and drops. The coach will evaluate the athlete’s riding at the start of the program to ensure they are at the correct skill level.
  • Time: Tuesday/Thursday - 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. & Saturdays 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Dates: June 14th - September 28th (44 sessions)
  • Holiday: July 30th & September 3rd  
  • Price: $1650
Competitions*
  • BC Cup series will be followed. Date and locations will be confirmed
*Competitions are tentative and can change depending on the team.
**Additional costs for program participants include: all coach expenses for competition dates (accommodation, travel, food, tickets), season pass or lift tickets for WinSport, lift tickets and accommodation for athlete at competitions
