As an Ice Technician at WinSport, you will report to the Director, Arenas and Supervisor, Arena Maintenance. You will be part of the team responsible for the safe maintenance of the state of the art multi-complex facility to achieve outstanding standards.

Responsibilities of this role include, but will not be limited to

  • Ice Maintenance and Resurfacing
  • Assist in Ice installation and removal
  • Refrigeration Plant maintenance checks
  • Facility maintenance including a variety of tasks such as cleaning dressing rooms, stands and lobby, and bathrooms replenishing as needed, as well as, wash and wax floors as required and the exterior maintenance of sidewalks and parking lot
  • Demonstrate a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one's own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers and WinSport guests

  • Arena Level 1
  • Valid First Aid, CPR / AED and WHMIS training

What the role is all about:

You take great pleasure and pride in providing a well maintained and functioning fleet of various vehicles whilst ensuring a safe working environment.
As the Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be reporting to the Supervisor, Vehicle Maintenance. You will be responsible for maintaining a full fleet of trucks, heavy equipment, and lawn care equipment and snow grooming vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure staff working in and around the shop are familiar with current Safety Procedures and hazards, which may occur within their working environment
  • Supervise and train an additional shop Mechanic/Apprentice
  • Ensure tour buses are maintained/inspected as required by Alberta Transportation Codes
  • Assist all departments with day-to-day welding and fabrication requirements
  • Order and maintain a complete stock of shop supplies and materials as required and keep a complete stock of mechanical parts required to maintain snow-grooming equipment
  • Coordinate fuel and lubrication deliveries and ensure all lubrication packaging and waste oil is disposed of according to provincial Codes
  • Coordinate vehicle and equipment for operations summer and winter staff and tour bus operators.
  • Complete up-to-date and accurate service records of all work done in shop
Qualifications
  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician
  • Three to five years snow cat maintenance experience
  • Strong knowledge of hydrostatic drive and hydraulic controls
  • Automotive fleet maintenance experience
  • Some welding and fabricating experience
  • Small two-stroke and four-stroke engine experience

  • Long hours on your feet
  • Working with hazardous material
  • Bending and lifting will be required

You strongly believe in providing a positive and enjoyable learning experience and demonstrate skills in leadership, time management, communication, on-ice technical skills and problem solving.

As a Skating Instructor for WinSport, you will be reporting to the Program Manager, Active Lives, and tailoring your instructing style to all participants of the WinSport Skate & Hockey School. You will be instructing and leading skating for children ranging in age from 3-16 years old, and your instruction is nothing short of professional, safe, friendly, approachable and team-oriented.

Responsibilities-You will be required but not limited to:

  • Showcase your leadership skills; Provide group supervision and management
  • Demonstrate skill with structure; Instruct in accordance with the WinSport Skating & Hockey School Procedure Manual and adhere to duty of care policies
  • Maintain class progress cards while encouraging the athletes to take the next step of lesson development
Qualifications/Skills-You will have:
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification (mandatory)
  • Current NCCP Certification with Skate Canada or Hockey Canada would be considered an asset
  • A passion for sport, in particular ice sports

What the role is all about:

This is a seasonal (temporary) winter position at WinSport, located in Calgary, Alberta. WinSport's Ski & Snowboard Program Instructors are here to provide safe and effective instruction in WinSport Ski/Snowboard School programs and lessons to school groups, brochure programs for students of all ages. All while providing exceptional guest experiences both on and off the hill.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • All duties are performed in accordance with the Ski/Snowboard School Procedure Manual. 
  • Provide quality instruction to all ages and ability level of the students assigned to them.
  • Presenting themselves as a representative of WinSport, Canada Olympic Park and the Ski/Snowboard School by acting in a professional, courteous manner. 
  • Carry out non-teaching duties listed as follows: hill set-up, rental shop assistance, hill take-down meet buses, organize school buses, organize school groups on arrival and check-in, etc, as assigned on main schedule.
  • Assisting in the processing of programs, day camps and school groups before the actual lesson takes place. 
  • Accurately record the student's progression throughout each lesson on the student's progression card.
  • Encouraging return visits and attendance to lessons from students by promoting the skill progression.
  • Delivering clear and concise lesson details and information.
  • Maintain accurate class cards including both the students first and last name, any transfers of a student to another instructor and current ability level. Class cards must be returned to the Team Leads after the lesson.
  • Record each child's secure pick up code on the class card to ensure the safety of the child.
  • Assure the Alpine Responsibility Code is covered in ALL classes taught and that this is documented on ALL class cards prior to the end of each class.
  • Responsible for dropping their students off at the assigned program meeting area.
  • Taking guidance and leadership from Supervisor, Team Leads in instructional and group settings.
  • Responsible for in-depth product knowledge and understanding of all Ski/Snowboard products as well as all WinSport policies and procedures. Demonstrate a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one's own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers, direct reports and WinSport guests
Qualifications
  • Current certification with the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance, Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors or foreign equivalent. 
  • Up to date and current First Aid and CPR is mandatory.
  • High 5 certification is mandatory within first 3 months of employment. 
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be enthusiastic and bring a positive attitude to work.
  • Ability to demonstrate the understanding of a "Team Player" 
  • Experience dealing with children in an instructional setting considered an asset. 
  • A willingness to develop new skills as a Skier/Snowboarder and as an instructor through training and personal development
  • NCCP certification is considered an asset
Wage
  • Range: $13.50- $21.00 per hour
Physical Demands
  • Be prepared to work in all weather conditions. 
  • Must be healthy and prepared to be outdoors skiing/snowboarding every day.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 20lb occasionally

As Venue Maintenance Crew, Park Grounds, you will be reporting to the Team Lead, Park Grounds and the Supervisor, Lift Operations & Park Grounds. You will be responsible for maintaining an attractive and clean outside environment for guests.

Responsibilities-You will be required but not limited to:

  • Maintain overall cleanliness of the outside park grounds, including the track, the ski hill, AIC, and parking lots 
  • Ensure all outdoor garbage cans are emptied, as required and debris is collected
  • Sweep the grounds in areas where required, as necessary
  • Shovel walkways and other areas, when required
  • Maintain landscape and turf maintenance for all park grounds and venues
  • Ensure care and maintenance of pageantry, banners and flags
Qualifications/Skills-You will have:
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions
  • Strong work ethic and initiative
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

It must get pretty lonely up at the ski jump towers. How do you keep yourself busy?
“There never seems to be a dull moment in my job. There’s always something exciting going on at the top of the hill. No two days are ever the same!”

The ski jump towers are only open during the winter, right?
“We actually operate year-round. Six out of our seven jumps are open during the summer months for training purposes.”
